Steve Lopes.

I really enjoyed spending time with the group of artists and working amongst the elements and the beautiful, wild scenery of The Whitsundays. I've tried to capture the energy of the coastal landscape in my paintings, the movements of water, the wind and the changing, rolling light.

I painted a number of works, all plein air, and it was a wonderful challenge to try to pin down what I was seeing in front of me.

Most of these works were painted barefoot, feet planted in the sand or sitting down by a beach rock or by the boat. Something like that has a relaxing effect on the soul and translated into a looser type of painting.

I'm very grateful for the opportunity to paint in this wonderful area and for the chance to meet and make new friends.
