BC Short

Bradley Short is a Queensland artist whose work is deeply inspired by the landscapes and coastlines of Australia. His painting practice has been shaped by influential artists including D.J. Hardy, Ray Crooke and Tom McAulay, as well as his studies under Annika Silvers and Barbara Cheshire, both of whom significantly influenced his approach to colour, composition and observation.

Over the years, Bradley has become particularly known for his evocative depictions of the Eungella Rainforest, capturing its atmosphere, light and changing moods. More recently, his experiences exhibiting and travelling through the Larapinta region inspired a departure from his familiar rainforest and seascape palette, introducing new colours and perspectives into his work

A passionate advocate for plein air painting, Bradley enjoys working directly within the landscape. He explains:

"I can work in the elements, depicting the landscape with guts and feeling. I like to use strong marks, and my passion is to accurately paint the light that defines a landscape."

In 2026, Bradley presented Under the Shade at the Outback Regional Gallery in Winton, a solo exhibition celebrating the character and quiet resilience of regional Australia through the humble Akubra hat. The exhibition explored themes of identity, heritage and the enduring spirit of the Australian outback, with each well-worn brim serving as a portrait of the people and places that shaped it.

Bradley is the owner and curator of Milton House Gallery, where he continues to paint, exhibit and support regional Australian art.
